IN THEATERS: Mary Queen of Scots

Attention, period drama fans! Today’s the day! In case you missed it Mary Queen of Scots has now been released in theaters across the United States!

Mary Queen of Scots is a film starring a Vintage HQ favorite Saoirse Ronan (On Chesil Beach, Brooklyn, Atonement) as well as Margot Robbie (Goodbye Christopher Robin, About Time, Pan Am) based on the book Queen of Scots; The True Life of Mary Stuart by John Guy. Set in the 1500s, Saoirse plays the title character Mary Stuart and Margot Robbie plays her cousin Queen Elizabeth I and the historical drama that unfolds follows conflicts between their countries. The powerful film tackles a clash of queens and the issues that two powerful women in history faced (marriage, children, loss, resentment, status, desires, ambitions, expectations and so much more) all while striving to keep the men away who surrounded them, attempting to take away their power.

This film is also a chance for Anglophiles and fans of other actors from across the pond to see some of them in action. Some familiar faces are Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey, North and South) who will play Matthew Stewart, the Earl of Lennox, and David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) who will play John Knox, a Protestant cleric.
