IN THEATERS: Judi Dench As Shakespeare’s Wife In “All Is True”

Anglophiles, rejoice! Judi Dench is back! This time as William Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, in All Is True.

All Is True is a film directed by and starring Sir Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express, Wallander, Much Ado About Nothing) as English poet, actor and playwright William Shakespeare. The film follows Shakespeare into the troubling last act of his life when his career is over and he returns home to Stratford-upon-Avon. Audiences, most used to only seeing his epic works, will this time actually get a glimpse into William Shakespeare’s own life in the little-known period of time in his final years as he revisits the past as well as a resentful family. Cast highlights include, of course, Vintage HQ staff favorite Dame Judi Dench (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Cranford, As Time Goes By) as Shakespeare’s wife, Anne, as well as Sir Ian McKellen (Beauty and the Beast, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, David Copperfield) as the Earl of Southampton.

All Is True has a limited theatrical release here in the U.S. starting today, December 21st, and will have a wider release early 2019. All Is True will also be opening the 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival in January in Palm Springs, California and Shakespeare himself, Kenneth Branagh is expected to attend!
