WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO

Many are familiar with Nina Simone’s classic 1965 version of “Feeling Good” from her “I Put A Spell On You” album but many might not know this song was originally written for a musical. It has since been covered by everyone from John Coltrane to Michael Buble. We’d like to highlight this version from “Verve Remixed: The First Ladies” because, while people don’t often like remixes of classics, when done right they can be amazing. We feel that this version keeps the integrity of what we all love about Nina Simone’s version but enhances it in all the right places. Enjoy!

Those were the days, eh, #vintagefam? It's hard to believe that just a few short weeks ago we were all out in the wild shopping shoulder to shoulder, looking for our next epic #vintagefind. Now we, as a world, are finding ourselves in isolation. Being asking to stay home and away from each other for awhile until we defeat an invisible enemy is teaching us so much about what we value in life. There are definite LESSONS TO BE LEARNED in all of this and it is our hope that we learn them. It's also our hope that we DON'T PAUSE LIFE. We all just need to adjust to a new way of life for awhile. Our #vintagecommunity is steeped in an entrepreneurial spirit so we all realize how important it is to support small businesses. But, in times such as these, IT IS VITAL that we amp it up! Missing your favorite #antiquemall? Maybe ask them to make available a list of their vendors' social media accounts so you can shop directly for a bit and, hopefully, that stream of income will help vendors be able to afford their booth rent when this is all over! Dreaming of #thrifting your next great score? Maybe do a little more digging on IG to find an amazing deal from an individual #vintage seller still trying to get their business off the ground! Whatever you do, keep supporting. Keep spending. Keep it up. Be intentional. It's not just another vintage frock you're buying. It might be a kindred spirit's bill you're helping to pay during this challenging time. And, on the flip side, to sellers...it isn't just another package to ship. The #happymail you're posting may just be the tiny bright spot in someone's, otherwise, dark week. Let's do our very best to stay positive. Let's keep it all going as best we can. And, at the end of this, let our community come out closer, stronger and more determined than ever to pursue our dreams in this one, short, beautiful life we've been given. #alonetogether Photo: @vintagehqonline at @magnolia

WHAT WE’RE READING

Modern Moment: Bear With…

Being a fan of all things vintage will inevitably introduce you to the period drama which will inevitably introduce you to British period dramas which will inevitably introduce you to British actors which will inevitably make you fans of these British actors which will inevitably make you branch out to these British actors’ other works which will inevitably end up making you a full-fledged Anglophile before you even know what hit you. And here we are.

You may know her as “Chummy” on the British period drama Call the Midwife, “Miranda” on the British comedy series Miranda or you may not know her yet at all and, if not, allow us to introduce you to Miranda Hart. Miranda is a fave here at Vintage HQ and we’re currently obsessing over her book Is It Just Me? It’s hilarious, relatable and even better is the Is It Just Me?: Audible Audiobook read by Miranda herself! We highly recommend you take a break from the stress of adulting in this modern world and have a few laughs over this engaging book!
